Factual Fiction- Public Toilet

There is something about some places that make you feel like holding your breath back. Some public toilets for instance. You feel scared to breathe deeply for fear of ingesting the bad odour in the toilet, even if in rare cases there is no ammonia odour and there is just the smell of odonil or harpic or domex that you are breathing in, yet, you don’t feel like doing it. You want to do the job quickly and get out as fast as possible but chances are that you are there because you have controlled it for too long and it is unbearable now. You don’t feel like looking around also, lest you see something disgusting. You want to make minimum movements for fearing of touching some part of the toilet. You are suspicious if the floor is wet. It may not necessarily be water.
You feel stuffy and wait to finish and rush out.

Especially when you travel, and when you have kids, this makes such a difference!
These days, I find myself recommending places to stop en route for their toilets, instead of their food!!

i am so paranoid abt public toilets that i can go even on 12-hour drives without a stop! :D
of course, after that, i need to either get home.. or halt for the night. in a hotel with a clean toilet! :D
i DO get dehydrated when we travel.. :))

when it comes to public toilet, people forget that they are not the last users including me. I regret using hand shower or flush with my bare hands. If i lack tissues, i leave as such and come back as dirty bitch

Being an American using a public toilet when I visited India was an interesting experience. They ranged from super clean usually in hotels and high end restaurants/cafes and the more questionably (un)clean ones in average places which usually we would forgo usually because of the stink or the appearance. We got good at the "going before you go" thing and not indulging in too much liquid while out and about. The most memorable quest for a clean toilet was on the return trip from Pune to Mumbai on the expressway in a hired car. Mini-me had to go like all get out but refused to use the toilet at the daba we had stopped at, holding it all the way to the airport 2 hours away-no mean feat for a 10 year old.
