Humble Request

May I please be allowed to comfort my sons when they are crying?
May I please be allowed to feed them a banana if they want it even if it is late evening?
May I please be allowed to smack them if they are extra naughty and not indulge their every illegitimate request?
May I please be allowed to b-feed them at an odd hour if they want it?
May I please not be questioned if I decide to change their diet for that day?
May I please be allowed to let them cry it out and nobody please comfort them?
May I please not pick them up every time they fall and nobody please pick them up?
Request please not use the words “beat mummy” if I am nasty with them when they are being particularly annoying.
May I please not emerge as a villain in such situations?

Tat You (Thank You)

Same feelings I have had for 5 years now. Sometimes I feel whether its my child or theirs :(

You have brought out the frustrations every mother feels at some time or other (maybe some more than others) very well in this short post.

And an addition from me - "May I please have your word that you will not go behind my back and encourage them (or even force - I kid you not!) to do things that I have specifically disallowed?"

Uff! These proxy parents drive me nuts! "Back Seat Parenting", I call it!

Just wanted to comment about your last post - wonderful refreshing points of view. Loved the confidence that obviously comes with motherhood!

I lost your blogname and tried all kinds of combinations. Finally found it again this morning so spent all day reading abck older stuff. You will be on my blogroll asap.

I would have to grant your requests to all except the CIO and smacking parts - but then again, you aren't asking me are you! They're your kids, Itchy! do what you feel is best for them - and say this to whoever opposes you :)

my pet peeve is also the 'beat amma'- I think that was used only a couple of times in my household by extended family - before I put an end to it...just can't accept any way I look at it, why violence against a parent would be preached!

yes, yes yes.....
and mommy why do you need to ask - just do as you please - you've given birth to them!!!

Ofcourse you can!I think no one knows it best than the parents.I wish peole would stop breathing down the parents necks and dispensing advices on how to raise their kids!I so feel the frustration at times.

You may do all that but let grandparents indulge them if they want to.It won't harm them I assure you.Just grin and bear it and ofcourse do your own thing.i regularly hear all this from my daughter so I know

I think there is still some time for me to go through all this.

Getting unsolicited advise is one thing the associated judgement they make about you as a parent is what gets to me. Didn't they make mistakes as parents ever, I wonder -to me parenting is exciting because it is a learning process and ofcourse you are allowed a few harmless mistakes...Stand up Itchy, for yourself.
